Grenada, integrated sustainable island building
Grenada is an island that is part of the Caricom. This is an organization like the EU in the Caribbean. Grenada is also known as the “Island of Spice” because of the production of nutmeg and mace crops of which Grenada is one of the world’s largest exporters. Its size is 344 square kilometers (133 sq. mi), with an estimated population of 110,000. Surinam is also part of the Caricom a country in which 100% Zomer has developed several businesses in Surinam. Besides that 100% Zomer transformed several (secluded) areas in Surinam into integrated sustainable micro economies.
100% Zomer was asked to provide a concept for integrated island development with the focus on sustainable agriculture and tourism. As a result of that 100% Zomer was asked to design the ‘Terms of Reference’ for the organization of an international Trade Expo in Grenada. MAREP hired 100% Zomer as a consultant to advise on several strategic, tactic and operational decisions that had to be taken in the implementation of the vision and strategy.

Why: Grenada is coping with several challenges as a small economy and community, relatively isolated. To sustain in the future drastic changes need to be made.
What: Based on this experience 100% Zomer was approached to develop an integrated sustainable vision and strategy for the island. Main focus was on the transformation to sustainable tourism and agriculture.
Results:
- A first vision and strategy on the integrated sustainable development of Grenada. A Grenada Island and trend canvas were the result.
- 100% Zomer asked het partner Superuse Studios to visualize a current and optimized metabolic state of the island.
- 100% Zomer connected the MAREP team to several international networks to be able to implement the strategy and plans made.
- 100% Zomer acted as a temporary project leader. This led to a more structured team cooperation and planning in-and outside Grenada.
- 100% Zomer developed the Terms of Reference and a format for an integrated sustainable Trade Expo. In this Expo tourism and agriculture were equally represented and cooperated to work for the total benefit of Grenada as a whole.
- 100% Zomer chaired several online meetings with international team members in the USA, St. Lucia, Grenada and Canada.
